What is Sulforaphane?
Sulforaphane is predominantly abundant in cruciferous vegetables, with broccoli being a typical source. It naturally occurs in plant cells as glucosinolates. When plant tissues are crushed or damaged, endogenous myrosinase hydrolyzes glucosinolates to produce sulforaphane. Similarly, after humans consume cruciferous vegetables, myrosinase in the body can also convert part of glucosinolates into bioactive sulforaphane.
What are the benefits?
1.Antioxidant ActivityAs a potent natural antioxidant, sulforaphane effectively scavenges free radicals, alleviates oxidative stress, and protects body cells from oxidative damage.
2.Anti-inflammatory EffectSulforaphane possesses excellent anti-inflammatory properties, capable of mitigating inflammatory reactions and easing discomfort caused by inflammatory conditions.
3.Antibacterial ActionIt exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria, fungi and viruses, and helping prevent various infectious diseases.
4.Digestive SupportSulforaphane can stimulate gastric juice secretion, boost gastrointestinal digestion, and relieve indigestion and gastric discomfort.
Application direction
Health products dominate the sulforaphane market, occupying 58.27% of the overall market share, mainly supplied in formulations such as soft capsules, hard capsules and tablets.
Sulforaphane naturally exists in cruciferous vegetables including broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage. For commercial mass production, it is primarily extracted from broccoli, especially broccoli seeds.
As a key active ingredient in nutritional supplements, dietary supplements, functional foods and beverages, sulforaphane delivers multiple health benefits. It is able to cross the blood-brain barrier, exerts potential pharmacological activity on the central nervous system, and positively regulates the pathological progression of various diseases.
In addition, relying on its excellent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, sulforaphane can improve skin pigmentation, reduce the area and color depth of melasma, making it an ideal natural raw material for skincare formulations.
